Secure SMTP - One SMTP for all ISPs

Typically you should use the SMTP server provided by your ISP.

This means that email you send, will go from your computer, to your ISP's SMTP server and then to the designated recipient. There is no reason for the email you send to go anywhere near our servers. When you receive email, then it will come to our server, and then we will either forward it to you, or put it in your mailbox depending on your setup.

HOWEVER. If you work from multiple locations, or use different ISPs then you may find changing your SMTP server all the time is a real hassle. There are 2 options.

  1. Install an SMTP server on your local computer
  2. Use our secure SMTP server

Setup instructions for our SMTP Server (for MS Outlook)

Our new SMTP server can be used from any ISP. These instructions are for MS Outlook but should be similar for other email programs.

  1. Tools menu-> Account settings
  2. Select account-> Change
  3. Outgoing Server: smtp.cms-tool.net
  4. Do not tick SPA option
  5. More Settings->Outgoing Server Tab
  6. Tick "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  7. Tick "use the same settings as my incoming mail server"
  8. Advanced Tab
  9. Outgoing Server Port: 25   (or 465)
  10. Don't tick "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)"
  11. In MS Outlook 2007, if you do want to use SSL, you might set the Encryption type to: TLS
  12. OK, Next, Finish

Tip, the part people often get wrong is the forget to change the outgoing server port!
