We'll also have some special quests at our stand througout, Catherine Livingstone in Wellington, and Linda Slade in Christchurch, both from "The Apprentice" TV show.

One on One Training / Hourly Web Design Service

One on one (or private group) training is a great way to enhance your website at a discount price. Sit down with one of our professional web designers for an hour and see what evolves. This is a great way for intermediate users to increase their skills, or for novice users to speed up the process of creating their website. For just $90 your website will be greatly improved. The same hourly fee also applies for SEO or any other professional help you need. One on one available at our Onehunga Auckland office with either Albie or Mike. Or in Christchurch and Wellington with Reuben ($120/hr) timed to coincide with our scheduled training courses, or for group sessions, we can quote for special events. Reply to this email or phone to book a time.  

If you are not based in the main centers, our design staff can still provide the same service over the phone. They will look at your website, and make changes that you will be able to see as you refresh your browser.  

 

 

New Support Ticketing System

We have introduced a new support ticketing system. Using the ticketing system is the fastest way to get support. It's really easy to use, just email support@websitebuilder.co.nz telling us what you want to know, and which ever support person is free will respond to you.

This really will deliver you the fastest support response, and we can not guarantee the speed of response if you email our personal email addresses. Please understand that our staff may be sick, or on holiday, or in a 2 hour training session with another customer. The new support ticketing system has 4 eyes on it, and often receives after hours attention.

Some tips on using our support desk for faster service: 

  • Send all support/accounts/sales/quotes/etc requests to support@websitebuilder.co.nz
  • Please do not address your emails to more than one email address. If this happens your email will be treated as spam/low priority. If you want the fastest email support, please email only to support@websitebuilder.co.nz
  • Please avoid sending support emails to individual members of staff, unless your request is personal and low priority. All general support email should be addressed to support@websitebuilder.co.nz, and if it requires particular attention by someone, it will be escalated to them and assigned a higher priority only then.
  • Try to provide as much information as you can when requesting support, e.g. what URL or what email address a problem relates to. If there is a general fault, we work that out very quickly, when all phones start ringing at once. So most bugs are normally specific to a particular website or email address.
  • Unless your request is super urgent, relating to an outage or system critical fault, then please use our email support and one of our staff can call you back if you prefer. We only have a few staff, and often we get overloaded.

 

 

Enhanced Listing on NZS.com

One great way to drive extra traffic to your website is with an Enhanced Listing on NZS.com (www.nzs.com). NZS.com is the largest searchable directory of New Zealand websites and generates traffic for many keyphrases relating to NZ searches.

For a small investment of $9.95+gst per month (that's a 50% discount on standard pricing), you could generate more traffic for your website and gain an extra SEO friendly link to your website

GST Changes

If your shopping cart uses a GST rate, we will automatically change all 12.5% to 15% free of charge. You should still click publish soon after just in case.

If you use GST inclusive pricing, we can do a global update for you also. The cost will be $20 and we can add 2.22% to all your prices (or any % you request)

 

 

International Domains

Do you want to purchase international domains a little cheaper? Now you can for just US$15 with our affiliate OpenSRS. Once you have purchased one of those domains, you will still need to login and change the nameservers or a-record to ours and also setup the domain name against your webspace in the CMS.

Payment Gateways - No More PayMex

PayMex is no more. Anyone using PayMex might like to consider using PayMate or PayPal or Flo2Cash who have contacted us saying they will match the plan you had with PayMex. 

The Flo2Cash offer is for a setup fee of $199.95, they will waive the monthly fee and offer a merchant rate of 2.95% with transaction fee of 25 cents. The package includes additional services from Flo2Cash.co.nz. Contact adrian.feasey@flo2cash.co.nz to apply for this offer.

 

Payment Gateways - Google Checkout.

We have added "Google Checkout" to the list of available payment gateways. This is only suited to businesses who have a bank account and business address in the USA or UK.

 

 

Events Calendar

You can now create events that only happen on a specific day of the week, that repeat throughout the year. This feature is not available with our booking system.

Several other improvements have been made to events booking system, and attendee management and invoice.

 

 

Choice of Content Editors

We have added a few new editors for editing your content in the Word style toolbar way. These are selectable from the dropdown box at the top right of the toolbar. TinyMCE is our default editor, and is the only one to be integrated with our images/links wizards. The other editors may add a few features that may help some users. Please note that all editors have potential to have bugs in different browsers, and we do not suggest you edit important content with different editors on a regular basis. Some of the editors allow you to change your fonts on individual pieces of text. Please do not use this feature in a widespread way, as it will make your pages difficult to edit. If you want to change your global font, please refer to the design settings area.

The biggest bug that people notice with TinyMCE editor is a spacing issue, where content can get moved around. This typically happens when copy and pasting from another program. Whenever you paste, please use the "Insert plain text option".

 

 

10 Best Tips on Better Website Design

  1. Stick to a limited colour pallet - eg use a prethemed template that matches your brand colours, and do not change the default menu / colours.
  2. Upload all your brand/design elements into 1 banner or animated banners. If using animated banners only use 3, and make sure they are the same size.
  3. Simple is best, avoid fonts, text colours, text alignment. Don't give importance to every element. Let headings and links and images only stand out.
  4. Put search keywords in a short plain text paragraph on the top of every page. Different keywords/paragraphs on each page.
  5. Calls to action should be clear and you should not need to scroll to see them.
  6. You should not need to scroll to access any important content, but at the same time, the footers are great places to put search engine friendly "waffle"
  7. Avoid using more menu buttons than your horizontal menu can handle. Or consider using sub menus.
  8. Spacing and balance is important. Use tables to layout items side by side. The image alignment option is only good for 1 image per paragraph. You can insert columns without borders using the "insert table" menu.
  9. Get a friend to critique your website. Watch them use your website, and don't give them any direction on what to do.
  10. Get a professional to help you...  even just for an hour to help tidy up...

 

 

 

 

Social Media - Share Links

Even if you are not using social media yourself, it doesn't mean everyone else thinks the same as you.

  • You should add sharing links so visitors to your website can share your web page with their friends/fans/followers. You can do this in the design settings area, under "supersize your website"
  • You can't control what people say about your website or business or brands or products on public sites like twitter, but you can control how you respond to them. You should check your "mentions" on twitter or do searches on your web address, brands and product names regularly to see what is being said.  

   

 

Search Engine Optimisation Tip of the Month

The placement of where someone links to you from is important. If someone links to you from their home page, rather than some deep page, obviously that makes your website look more important, and search engines thing the same.

On the flip side, you should link to other peoples websites from your Links pages, or Gallery pages or Advertiser pages. Do not link from your home page nor from your website template. The correct approach for reciprical linking is to each link from your links page to each others home page.
