Mums in Business

We've recently focused our attention on identifying and promoting successful Mums in business throughout New Zealand. We wanted to find out more about the reasons behind their businesses, the challenges they faced along the way and how they solved them, the reasons behind getting a website and their top tips for other Mum entrepreneurs.

We'd like to introduce you to seven highly successful Mums in Business! Click on their name to read their own individual stories.

Annette Jackson of Just 4 You

Annette Jackson's website is an image of beauty! Her handmade dolls and accessories are so incredibly cute to look at, that you can just picture their recipient being thrilled beyond belief with their new doll! As the owner and creator of Just 4 You, Annette has found a great niche in the provision of dolls customised to look like their recipients! .

Bianca Richardson had a problem. Unable to find a solution and being an enterprising Mum, she invented a product to solve it. Enter Houdini Stop, the world famous chest clip for car seats, strollers and high chairs! But she didn't stop there. Bianca has since invented many other wonderful products, all designed to help keep kids safe and make the lives of their parents easier.

Suz Coram-Stanley is an amazing woman! After experiencing the worst day of her life, Suz has built a highly successful business designing customised and personalised jewellery. Her memorial jewellery and keepsakes have provided comfort for many parents of Angel Babies and others who have experienced loss. Here's the story of Suz and her journey as a Mum setting up and running her business KJdesigns.

Kelly Poole of Love Calm Learn

Nothing will ever hold Kelly Poole back from helping her three children, and she's proved it yet again with the creation of her business Love Calm Learn! A diagnosis of autism for her eldest daughter led to the homeschooling of all three of her children. On the recommendation of her daughter's occupational therapist, Kelly began to look for resources she could use to help her daughter. Love Calm Learn was born!

Nitya Nixon of Nature Body

Nitya Nixon has a passion for 100% natural products and zero waste. When her eldest daughter was born, she struggled to find affordable natural products for her to use. This led to Nitya making her own natural body-care and home cleaning products at home. Friends and family soon found out and wanted them as well, leading to Nitya creating Nature Body!

Tracy James loved to bake and her friends loved to sample her baking! They planted the seed in her mind that she could start up a business working from home. Tracy thought about this, created a plan and despite having a start-up budget of zero, created Cake and Bake Kiwi! Now cooking up a storm for many delighted customers throughout the Wellington region, Tracy's business is a huge success!

Mariana Martin of Mayhem Creations

Mariana Martin wanted to find a way to supplement her family's income, but still be a full-time Mum at home. Enter Mayhem Creations, an online tutu shop for girls of all ages! From pre-designed to custom created, Mariana's tutus have been worn at 1st birthday parties, weddings, Christmas parties, as a dress up, maternity photo shoots and also as everyday wear. Come and read more about Mariana's success as a Mum in business!

Creating a Work Life Balance Working from Home

Working from home is awesome. There's no travel involved, you usually can set your own hours, you can wear 'home clothes' and you don't need to worry about things such as what to do if the kids are sick. But there is one significant pitfall and that is that the line between work time and home time can become blurred. It's easy to happen and it's often not something we recognise.

Join Our New Business Networking Group

We have started a new Facebook based business networking group. Please join the group, even if you are not a customer of Website World.

All businesses are also entitled to a free directory listing. If you are a website builder customer, you can manage your directory listings from within our CMS under SEO tab, to ensure your listing gets enhanced listing status. If you are not a customer of Website World, then you can register a new listing in the directory.

Site of the Month

Carl from Just Graphix was the winner of our recent eCommerce competition. Included in his prize was a redesign of his current site hosted with us.

Albie worked with Carl to create a site which reflects the visual nature of his industry by updating his template, resizing old images, adding new ones, and adjusting the colours and fonts to better reflect the brand.

You can check out Carl's newly redesigned site here.

Website Migration with Perfect SEO Link Juice

We can now import websites from most other CMS and shopping platforms, maintaining perfect SEO link juice and full replication of the existing template and content.

The migration service takes a perfect snapshot of all SEO meta tags and URL filenames, ensuring that all pages are in the right place, and specifying the same SEO information, just as Google is used to seeing prior to migration.

After migration, you can then use our SEO tools to manage your meta tags yourself, and further improve your google ranking, without worrying about implementing 301 redirects. That step is not necessary, as your site map has been maintained.

We are offering this as a free service too! To learn more about how this works, here are two articles for you to read:

Hosting Plan Changes

In general, most customers will remain on the same hosting plan for the same price.

We have removed our low priced lite hosting plans, that didn't have SSL certificates. Annual hosting customers have been upgraded for free and won't need to pay the new plan price until their next renewal. Monthly customers will be assigned new plans this October.

Our standard plan is now our entry level plan, and therefore, all plans will have SSL certificates now.

On some hosting plans, the entitlement to mailboxes has been slightly reduced. If you have a lot of mailboxes, you may be charged $5 per mailbox for any that are excess to the plan limit. Please only use mailboxes for individual staff members, and then use aliases to forward mail to the appropriate staff member.  We believe our pricing for mailboxes still represents great value.

System Updates

  • Update to Fastway API
  • Logged in customers can now have access to up to 6 different shipping addresses
