One on One Training is available at our offices in Auckland on an appointment basis, or other regions subject to scheduling. Reuben currently has time available in Wellington on 20th October. Other times may be considered in other regions for group or half day training.

 

GST Rate Change Implications

GST on your most recent monthly statement/invoice was calculated at 12.5%. GST on your invoice at the end of this month will be calculated at 15%. If changing your automatic payment, please note the new GST inclusive price for our basic plan is $28.75 and the business plan is $46 incl gst. If there are any shortfalls on your account, you may need to make a one off adjustment at the end of this month. Remember that we have discounts for those who pay their hosting annually. You can change to an annual hosting plan in the accounts area of the CMS, and then pay on invoice at end of the month.

Cheaper Calling, Second Line, 0800 numbers etc.

Call routing so that inbound calls will follow you to your desk, home or mobile. Voice menus just like we have.

Domain Names

Don't be fooled by trademark infringement warnings from Asia. You don't need to buy those domain names unless you really want them. There are just so many domain suffixes, it really is pointless buying them all unless you have a specific reason.

.nz domains (just NZ$29+gst per year, discounts for multiple years)

.au domains (just AU$58 for 2 years)

All other International Domains (from US$15)

Tips

  • Domains containing keywords are great, but you can really only have one primary web address. So buying several variations of keyphrases are a waste of time. Focus all your SEO linking effort on your best domain name.
  • Use alternative domain names in offline/radio/tv advertising, to guage the success of those mediums.
  • Buy additional domain names only if you think misspellings or "address guessing" will get you some traffic.

 

Scams - Emails re Paypal

Be constantly aware of phishing scams, where you receive an email which appears to be from a major bank, or popular payment gateway like Paypal. These emails are obvious when they are not one of your suppliers, but sometimes they are. Alot of people have been confused about one looking like it originated from Paypal. What ever you do, do not click the links in those emails. A good way to tell when an email is a scam/hoax is to check which email address it was sent to, if it is not the email address you registered with that provider, then it is definitely a scam. Another big tip off is when the email itself contained no personal information about you. Typically a supplier you do business with will personalise the email to you, using your name, and typically reminding you of your username. To be on the safeside, just never click a link in an email that takes you to any sort of "payment" or "login" form, unless the timing of that email is due to an immediate event that you originated via a purchase or password reminder. You can't go wrong with just typing in the correct website address into the address bar of your browser.

 

Social Media - Add This

Referring friends using email is so last year. The net etiquite way to do this now is using social networks, where you post your favourite links on your facebook wall, or otherwise blog about it using another network. You don't need to be using social media yourself, but if you want to make use of the power of the mases to promote your website, then we encourage you to use the "Add This" social media tool on your website. You can add this to the footer of all your pages under the "Design" tab, "Supersize my website" options in the left menu of the CMS, or get a custom button from http://www.addthis.com/

 

Search Engine Optimisation Tip of the Month

The first paragraph of your website is the best place to put your keyphrase. Focus each page of your website on a different keyphrase. Use more pages to capture more phrases. Refer to the link below for some great keyword selection tools

In the rename area of each page, the keyphrase should also be used as the filename, eg "stainless-steel-range-hoods.html" and you can also override the meta page title in this same area with a sentence starting with your keyphrase, and ending with your company name or a promotional message, eg "stainless steel range hoods - on sale for $250 at company X", as this message will display in google search results for the keyphrase "stainless steel range hoods". In addition to this, create links from the content of your home page linking the words "stainless steel range hoods" to your dedicated page for that topic.
