What is a Chatbot?
ELIZA, the first chatbot, was developed in 1966 by MIT professor Joseph Weizenbaum to simulate a psychotherapist.
Put simply, a chatbot is an automated software tool which uses text conversations to help online shoppers, answer questions and grow sales. But it is important to remember that the capabilities of the chatbot does depend upon the technology behind it and the information and systems it can access.
There are two kinds of chatbots - rule based (which follow a predefined set of questions and answers) and AI powered (which use AI to understand questions and respond accordingly using website data).
